The employees of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department and Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of jointly held immediate operative measures and investigative actions detained two persons for armed robbery committed in group, attempted murder under aggravating circumstances and illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms . The detainees are: R.P. (DoB 1986) and B. Ch. (DoB 1992).
The committed crime envisions from 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The investigation established that on January 5 of the current year, the defendants robbed two foreign nationals on their way from Zugdidi to Mestia, deprived them of their mobile phones and shot one of the victims - V.S. (DoB 1986) and was restricted from his freedom.
In order to cover up the crime, the accused persons later threw the body into the river and hid from the place of crime.
The employees of different units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out relevant activities continuously for two consecutive days.
Investigative activities were carried out both in Mestia Municipality and in the entire territory of Samagherelo-Zemo Svaneti region, in which the helicopter was also involved.
As a result of the investigative actions, the police arrested both persons accused of the mentioned crime.
The law enforcement officers found the body of V.S. in the river Nakra on the territory of Mestia municipality.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 179, 19-109 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
